The Steelers will start preparing for 2023 after their two remaining NSW junior representative sides were knocked out of finals on Easter Friday.
Illawarra’s SG Ball side fell 24-6 to the Panthers, while the Tarsha Gale team lost 8-4 to the Tigers. The results came after the club’s Harold Matthews outfit missed out on finals.
Illawarra’s SG Ball outfit trailed by six at halftime, before Penrith proved too strong in the second half.
“I’m disappointed for the boys, they’ve put in so much effort and worked really hard. They probably deserved a little better than what happened to them today, I’d probably rather they got beaten by one try than the bigger score line,” coach Glenn Buffolin said.
“We just had to play too much catch up footy and it took it out of us, which is not much good when you’re playing a good side.”
