HNWP | Steelers Announce 2025 Squad

The Illawarra Steelers are proud to announce their 2025 Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership Squad. Under the guidance of returning coach Jamie Szczerbanik, who led the team to victory in last year’s premiership, the squad is a dynamic blend of experienced players and promising newcomers.

“This season, we’re thrilled to see a mix of seasoned players who have proven their worth on the field and talented newcomers ready to make their mark,” said Coach Szczerbanik.

“We’re focused on building on last year’s achievements and are committed to nurturing a team environment where every player can thrive.”

The squad will be captained by powerhouse prop Mackenzie Lear (pictured), who played a pivotal role in the team’s success last season. Her leadership and skill are expected to inspire and uplift the team as they strive for another championship title.

Also returning from last year’s premiership-winning team are Tayleah Handcock, Kiara Kostovksi, Shae Muhleisen, Jessica Patea, Tori Shipton, Tiarna West and Rhian Yeo.

They will be joined by experienced halfback Maddie Studdon who made her women’s competition debut for Helensburgh in 2010. Studdon has played for four NRLW clubs: the Sydney Roosters, St. George Illawarra, Parramatta, and Cronulla.

Last year, she represented the South Sydney Rabbitohs in the HNWP. The 30-year-old has also captained the Women’s Blues in the inaugural Women’s Holden State of Origin and represented the Australian Jillaroos during her decorated career.

Szczerbanik has also drawn players from the club’s successful Lisa Fiaola and Tarsha Gale Cup Pathway teams, including Ella Churchill, Tahanni Kaufusi, Makayla McFayden, and Skye Spencer.

The Steelers will kick off their 2025 campaign with three consecutive home games against the West Tigers, Parramatta Eels, and Central Coast Roosters, starting with Round 1 on July 5.
