The Illawarra South Coast Dragons kicked off their men’s country championship in style by scoring eight tries to one in their 48-6 victory over MacArthur Wests Tigers at Kirkham Park on Saturday.
Braxton Wallace and Wests Devils 2024 grand final hero Dane Chisholm (pictured) bagged doubles, with Chisholm landing seven from eight conversion attempts and a penalty goal in his 24-point haul.
Andrew Johns Cup
Earlier, the Dragons recorded their third win on the trot in the Andrew Johns Cup, defeating the Tigers 20-12.
The Dragons led 12-0 through converted tries to Jeremy Packer and Preston Cruiz before the Tigers reduced the margin to six just before halftime.
The Dragons extended their lead with a penalty goal early in the second stanza, but the Tigers clawed their way back again to trail 14-12 with 20 minutes remaining.
Winger Preston Sager sealed the win for the Dragons with a four-pointer in the dying minutes.
Laurie Daley Cup
The Under 18s repeated the dose in Laurie Daley Cup action with a come-from-behind 26-22 win over the Tigers after trailing 12-10 at halftime and 22-10 at the 49th-minute mark.
Then the Dragons attack kicked into gear, scoring three unanswered tries to Archie Wheeler Flynn O’Mara and Jack Koster for a hard-fought four-point win.
