The Illawarra Steelers recorded two wins and a draw over the Sharks in the three Round 6 NSWRL junior rep games at Collegians Sporting Complex on Saturday.
A near-unstoppable Teagan Berry scored her second hat-trick of the season for the Steelers in the Tarsha Gale Cup clash. The Steelers fullback is in red-hot form scoring 10 tries in five games this season. Leading 28-0 at halftime, the hosts went on with the job in the second stanza defeating the Sharks 44-4 to remain atop the Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup.
Tries by Palu Tausala and Sean Trindall either side of halftime sparked a fightback by the home side in the Harold Matthews Cup after trailing 28-12 early. A line break and try by centre Te Umuariki Heremia-Tukere in the last minute was converted by Taj Ford to give the Steelers a share of the two competition points.
The Steelers capitalised on a 14-point half time lead over the Sharks in the SG Ball Cup to record a 40-26 victory, and clean sweep for the hosts. The Steelers scored seven tries to five, skipper Jackson Shereb leading from the front with two tries and Joshua Coric also bagging a double. Winger Alexander Lobb continued his good form with the boot converting six from seven attempts.
Harold Matthews Cup and SG Ball Cup sides are at home again this week taking on the Bears from 11.30am while the undefeated Tarsha Gale Cup team travel to Belmore Oval for their clash with last-placed Bulldogs.
