It is with great sadness we inform of the death of life-member, Ray Phillips, who passed away on Tuesday, aged 86.

Ray was a long-term delegate and President of the Helensburgh RLFC.

Ray was also President of Illawarra Junior Rugby League and elected a life-member of Illawarra Rugby League. Ray was a very respected administrator throughout the Illawarra and South Coast Leagues.

His sons Mark and Peter played with the Steelers; Grandsons Chris Astill, John Green and Blake Phillips all represented Illawarra; while Damian Cook is a current Australian player.

The Illawarra Steelers and all associated with Rugby League in Illawarra extend condolences to Ray’s wife Lesley and the extended Phillips’ family.

Ray’s Funeral will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, McMillan Street Helensburgh at 10am on Friday 8th April. A full requiem mass to be held followed by a private burial.
