Mixed Results in Women and Girls Tackle

Mixed results for Illawarra Rugby League women and girls teams in the inaugural Southern Corridor tackle competition.

Corrimal Cougars are in fourth spot with five wins and one loss, their four-game winning streak ending with a 6-4 defeat at the hands of competition leaders Milton Ulladulla last week.

Still, they sit just four competition points behind the Bulldogs with a game in hand after their Round 4 clash with Penshurst was postponed.

The Cougars have the talent to press for premiership honours this season featuring returning Steelers Open Women’s players including Jade Etherden (pictured), Anastacia Shum, Olivia Vale, Zali Yeo and veteran Tammy Fletcher.

Mt Kembla Lowries first-ever women’s team has struggled to compete in the top grade, losing all eight games to date but continues to show up each week despite finishing on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

The Cougars host Warilla-Lake South, whom they beat 34-14 in Round 2, at Ziems Park. Mt Kembla head to Flinders Field to play Stingrays and hope to improve on their 48-6 loss earlier this season.

Open Women’s Ladder

In the Southern Corridor Under 18 Girls Tackle, Collegians (5-1) sit in second place behind undefeated Stingrays from Group 7, with the Cougars holding down third spot on the ladder ahead of Kingsgrove Colts and Cronulla Caringbah.

Collies face a tough assignment heading to Flinders Field to take on Stingrays, who beat them 40-6 in Round 4. Corrimal is away to Kingsgrove Colts.
