The Run Home | Women and Girls Tackle

Finals football is just around the corner for all but one Illawarra team competing in the Southern Corridor Open Women and Girls tackle competitions with two rounds remaining.

In the Open Women’s Tackle, a win to the Corrimal Cougars this weekend over Mt Kembla Lowries should secure a top-two finish having only lost one game this season, 6-4 to competition leaders Milton Ulladulla. The Cougars final game of the regular season is against Jamberoo who they beat 30-6 in Round 6.

The Lowries have had a challenging first season. The fledgling team’s resilience was rewarded with a maiden 24-6 win over Nowra-Bomaderry in Round 10, their opponents in the season’s final game, which should see them avoid the dreaded wooden spoon.

In the Under-18’s, Collegians hold down the second spot on the ladder and play the fourth-placed Corrimal this weekend. Steelers Tarsha Gale representative Sienna Yeo (pictured) will be looking to add to her 11 tries this season, currently one behind Steelers team-mate Mia-Rose Walsh. Yeo leads Walsh by eight points in overall points scored.

Both teams are assured of a finals berth, with Collies having a bye next week and the Cougars five points clear of 5th place Kingsgrove Colts who play competition leaders Stingrays in the final round next week.

The U18 and Open Women’s Grand Finals will be played on Sunday, 27 August, to be preceded by the South32 Illawarra Rugby League Girls U14s and U16s Preliminary Finals.
