The Illawarra Steelers have announced summer train-on squads for the 2026 NSWRL junior representative season, which will begin in February. The elite pathways program has expanded to include six teams, with the addition of the Andrew Johns Cup (Under 16 boys) and Laurie Daley Cup (Under 18 boys) teams.
Former Steelers and Dragons legend Shaun Timmins enters his third season as head coach of the SG Ball Cup team, aiming to achieve further success after reaching the finals in his first two seasons.
Joining him on the coaching staff is another former Steeler and Dragon, Luke Bailey, who will lead the Tarsha Gale Cup squad, taking over from Courtney Crawford. Crawford will transition to coach the Steelers’ Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership team in 2026, succeeding Jamie Szczerbanik.
Jy Clapham has been appointed as the head coach for the Harold Matthews Squad, following two seasons as assistant coach to Szczerbanik. Scott Ashcroft has been appointed the new coach of the Lisa Fiaola Cup squad, taking over from Brad Reh after two seasons at the helm.
In the NSWRL regional representative program, Adam Sargent-Wilson will continue as head coach of the Laurie Daley Cup squad as they seek to defend their title, while Abed Atallah will lead the Andrew Johns Cup squad.
Pre-season training begins on November 1, with trials scheduled for December and January. Final squads will be announced before Round 1, which kicks off on February 7-8.
