With just six rounds remaining in the 2026 Harrigan Cup regular season, every result is becoming increasingly significant in the race for finals positions and the minor premiership.
Last week’s postponed Round 5 clash saw Collegians edge out Dapto 16-14, lifting the defending minor premiers into a share of second place alongside Corrimal and Dapto on 10 competition points.
The trio now sit just two points behind co-leaders Wests and Thirroul, making this weekend’s Round 10 fixtures pivotal. A blockbuster top-of-the-table showdown between Wests and Thirroul headlines the round, while Dapto and Collegians meet again just seven days after serving up an enthralling contest.
Sutherland-Loftus v Corrimal
Sutherland-Loftus will be hoping home ground and the atmosphere of the annual Beer, Footy and Food Festival at Henson Park can help spark a turnaround after a difficult month.
The competition newcomers were highly competitive through the opening rounds, but heavy defeats have begun to take their toll. The Newtown Jets and Cronulla Sharks feeder club will be desperate to rediscover the form that made them a difficult opponent earlier in the season.
Standing in their way is the competition’s biggest surprise packet.
Corrimal have emerged as genuine premiership contenders, stringing together statement victories over Wests, Thirroul and Collegians in their last three outings. Coach Sean Tabet has the Cougars playing with confidence on both sides of the ball as they continue their charge towards a top-three finish and a genuine shot at the minor premiership.
The Cougars claimed a convincing 30-10 victory over the Pirates in Round 5 and will be chasing a fourth consecutive win. Another two competition points could see them finish the weekend in outright second place depending on the outcome of the Dapto-Collegians clash.
Wests v Thirroul
It doesn’t get much bigger than this.
Competition leaders Wests and Thirroul square off in a blockbuster clash with first place on the line after both sides enjoyed the bye last weekend.
The Devils bounced back strongly from their upset loss to Corrimal in Round 8 with a dominant victory over Sutherland-Loftus, while the Butchers have had two weeks to reflect on their 26-16 defeat to Dapto.
Earlier in the season, Wests handed Thirroul a 42-16 reality check in Round 5 to end their unbeaten start to the season.
With both teams locked on 12 competition points, the winner will take outright ownership of first place and gain valuable momentum heading into the final six rounds.
Dapto v Collegians
Seven days after producing one of the games of the season, Dapto and Collegians do it all again.
Collegians fought back from a 10-point halftime deficit to snatch a thrilling 16-14 victory in last week’s postponed Round 5 fixture, leaving Dapto with little time to dwell on the narrow defeat before the rematch.
The stakes are even higher this time around.
Both clubs sit alongside Corrimal on 10 competition points, just two behind the ladder leaders. Victory would keep the winner firmly in the hunt for the minor premiership, while defeat could see them lose valuable ground as the race for the top five intensifies.
With so little separating the competition’s leading sides, expect another fierce contest between two genuine premiership contenders.
Lower Grades
In the Harrigan Plate, Corrimal will welcome Helensburgh while Wests face Thirroul at home. Collegians receive a bye following Dapto’s recent withdrawal from the competition.
In Harrigan Shield double-headers, ladder leaders Norths take on eighth-placed Corrimal at Berkeley Sports, before the second-placed Eagles meet the fifth-placed Crushers. Meanwhile, at Mt Kembla Park, Windang Sharks (7) and the Lowries (6) are battling to keep their top five chances alive against Avondale Wombats (3) and Greyhounds (4), respectively.
