Harrigan Cup: Round 15 Preview

The Harrigan Cup minor premiership will go down to the final weekend of the regular season, with Thirroul and Corrimal both still in contention for top spot heading into Round 15.

While the all-important top three has been decided, there is still plenty riding on the final round as the Butchers and Cougars battle for the minor premiership and the best possible path through the top-five finals series.

Thirroul heads into the weekend in the box seat on 19 competition points, one clear of Corrimal, with Collegians a further point back.

For the Butchers, the equation is simple, defeat defending premiers Wests and the minor premiership is theirs.

Corrimal can still leapfrog Thirroul with victory over Sutherland-Loftus, but the Cougars will need the Devils to do them a favour and defeat the competition leaders.

There is even a scenario where Collegians could finish equal first. The Collie Dogs need to beat Dapto and hope both Thirroul and Corrimal lose. However, Thirroul’s superior points differential would see the Butchers claim the minor premiership in that scenario.

Collies Still Have a Chance

Collegians’ top-three position is secure, but the Collie Dogs still have a mathematical chance of finishing the regular season level with the competition leaders when they face Dapto.

Their two previous meetings have produced contrasting results.

Collegians fought back from 10–0 down at halftime to defeat the Canaries 16–14 in their postponed Round 5 encounter, before Dapto responded emphatically when the sides met again a week later.

The Collie Dogs now need victory and results elsewhere to fall their way if they are to climb any higher.

For Dapto, the final round represents an opportunity to find form ahead of the match that really matters.

The Canaries and Wests will meet in the Elimination Final in Week One, regardless of what happens this weekend.

Butchers In Box Seat

Thirroul’s clash with Wests shapes as the headline act of the final round, particularly given the two very different encounters between the sides this season.

Wests handed the previously unbeaten Butchers their first loss of the year in Round 5, producing one of their best performances of the season in a commanding 42–16 victory at Thomas Gibson Park.

Thirroul turned the tables when the sides met again in Round 10, holding their nerve for a thrilling 20–18 victory at Sid Parrish Park.

That leaves the season series locked at one win apiece and sets up an enthralling third meeting, with Thirroul chasing the minor premiership and Wests looking to build momentum ahead of the finals.

Regardless of the result, the Devils will face Dapto in a sudden-death Elimination Final in Week One.

Cougars Ready To Pounce

Corrimal will be ready to pounce on any Thirroul slip-up when they face Sutherland-Loftus on Sunday.

The Cougars have dominated their two previous meetings with the Pirates this season, winning 30–10 at Ziems Park in Round 5 before producing a 68–6 victory at Henson Park in Round 10.

But the Pirates have shown in recent weeks that they are capable of upsetting the established order.

After breaking through for their first win of the season with a dramatic 26–24 victory over Dapto in Round 13, Sutherland-Loftus backed that up with an impressive 40–10 win over Wests in Round 14.

That makes the Pirates a potentially dangerous opponent for a Corrimal side that knows victory is essential if it is to have any chance of snatching the minor premiership.

Finals Picture Takes Shape

After one of the tightest Harrigan Cup seasons in recent memory, the five finalists are settled but the final order at the top remains unresolved.

The significance of finishing inside the top three has been a feature of the competition throughout the season, with the 2026 Harrigan Cup again operating under a top-five finals format.

For Wests and Dapto, Round 15 provides one final opportunity to tune up before their sudden-death showdown.

For Collegians, it is a chance to carry winning momentum into the finals and potentially improve their finishing position.

And for Thirroul and Corrimal, there is still a piece of silverware on the line.

After 14 rounds of twists, upsets and momentum swings, the race for the Harrigan Cup minor premiership will fittingly be decided on the final weekend.
