Harrigan Cup: Round 9 Preview

As the Harrigan Cup season enters the second half of the season, the stakes rise with every match in the battle for finals spots and home-ground advantage.

Round 9 offers three compelling clashes: Thirroul aims to solidify its position at the top of the table against Dapto, Corrimal continues its impressive resurgence against last year’s grand finalists Collegians and defending premiers Wests look to rebound after one of the season’s biggest upsets.

Dapto v Thirroul
Dapto head to Gibson Park this week to face Thirroul, eager to bounce back from their heavy 44-4 defeat to the Butchers in Round 4. They’re coming off a confidence-boosting win over Sutherland-Loftus, but so too are their opponents, who were all class against Collegians in trying conditions last week.

Corrimal v Collegians
Corrimal have emerged as one of the biggest improvers this season, with consecutive wins over Thirroul and Wests. With form on the board, they are well-placed to challenge last year’s grand finalists but will need to overturn their 34-18 loss to the Collie Dogs back in Round 4.

Sutherland-Loftus v Wests
The Pirates are still searching for their elusive first win of the season. Although they have been competitive in most matches, they have struggled to maintain an 80-minute performance. Their toughest challenge yet awaits on Sunday as they face the defending premiers, Wests, who will be eager to respond after a shock loss to the Cougars last week.
