Steelers tune up for Day of Steel

A clean sweep by the Illawarra Steelers in Round 3 of the NSWRL junior reps on the weekend was the perfect tune-up heading into the Day of Steel at WIN Stadium this Saturday, with all four grades at home against the Parramatta Eels in Round 4.

The weekend wrap, brought to you by Harrigan Motor Group.

At Collegians Sporting Complex, the Harold Matthews Cup U17s recorded their first win of the season, scoring four tries, while the Central Coast Roosters were kept scoreless in the 20-0 victory.

On the back of a Tom Kirk (pictured left) hat-trick, the undefeated SG Ball Steelers have set up a mouthwatering clash with the Eels (3-0) with a 34-12 win over the Melbourn Storm.

With the scores locked at 12-all at the break, the hosts scored four unanswered tries in the second stanza on the way to their third consecutive win.

Not to be denied, the Steelers Tarsha Gale 17s and Lisa Fiaola U19s Cup sides recorded resounding wins over the North Sydney Bears away. Brad Reh’s U17s scored eight tries to two in their 42-8 win over the Bears.

Ella Greatz and Michala Hardy picked up a brace of tries, with Maddalyn Bullock landing five conversions in the 34-point win.

The Tarsha Gale Steelers piled on 50 unanswered points against the Bears, with five-eighth Evie McGrath scoring a hat-trick and Mia-Rose Walsh, Darcy Eade, and Indie Bostock all scoring doubles.
