City v Country Bye Shifts Focus to Harrigan Plate and Shield Action

There will be a general bye in the Harrigan Cup this weekend as the representative spotlight turns to the annual City v Country fixtures.

With the top grade taking a breather, attention across the Illawarra shifts to the lower grades, headlined by a Harrigan Plate Magic Round at Rex Jackson Oval, Helensburgh, while the Harrigan Shield competition also rolls into Round 3.

The Harrigan Plate Magic Round shapes as an intriguing weekend, with several unbeaten records and winless starts set to be tested.

Wests v Collegians

Defending premiers Wests Devils will put their undefeated record on the line when they clash with Collegians in what looms as one of the standout matches of the day.

The Devils have again started strongly in 2026, but the Collie Dogs will be desperate to claim a scalp and stay within striking distance of the competition leaders.

Dapto v Corrimal

Elsewhere, Dapto and Corrimal are both searching for their first win of the season when they face off in an important clash for both clubs, with neither side able to afford to lose touch with the leading pack.

Helensburgh v Thirroul

The final fixture of the Magic Round sees undefeated Thirroul take on hosts Helensburgh. The Butchers have emerged as one of the early pace-setters, but the Tigers enter the contest full of confidence after a dominant victory over Dapto last weekend and will relish the opportunity to test themselves against the joint competition leaders on home soil.

Meanwhile, the Harrigan Shield competition also promises plenty of action, with the match of the round shaping as a showdown between Northern Suburbs Bulldogs and Berkeley Eagles. Sitting second and third respectively on the ladder, both sides have impressed through the opening rounds, and the result could have major implications on the early-season standings.

Avondale Wombats will look to continue their strong form when they host Figtree, while Windang face a tough home assignment against Corrimal Cougars. In the remaining fixture, Avondale Greyhounds welcome Mt Kembla Lowries.
