The wait is over — the new Illawarra Junior Rugby League season kicks off this weekend, and excitement is building right across the region.
After a big pre-season of training, development and plenty of hard work, our players are ready to pull on the jersey and represent their teams with pride.
From our youngest juniors taking their first steps onto the field, to our experienced players leading the way, Round 1 is always a special milestone for everyone involved.
“This weekend marks the start of the Coal Australia Illawarra Junior League (U6–U12s) and League Tag competitions,” said Illawarra Rugby League Head of Football Carlo Napolitano.
“We wish all 210 teams competing across 17 age-based competitions the very best of luck for the season ahead.”

At the same time, the Dynamoney Illawarra/Group 7 Merged (U12–U16s) Competitions get underway, featuring 104 teams across 10 age-based competitions.
“Spanning a vast region from Helensburgh in the north, through the Illawarra, down to Milton Ulladulla in the south and across to the Southern Highlands in the west, these competitions showcase the incredible depth and reach of junior rugby league in our area,” Napolitano added.

Coaches and volunteers have put in countless hours preparing squads, focusing not only on skills and fitness but also on teamwork, sportsmanship and enjoying the game. That spirit will be on full display this weekend as teams take to the field for Round 1.
“We encourage all families, friends and supporters to get down to the grounds, cheer loudly and create a great atmosphere for our players.
Your support makes a huge difference and helps build the strong community that our game is so proud of.”
Good luck to all teams for Round 1 — play hard, play fair, and most importantly, enjoy every moment of the season ahead.
Let’s go!
