Steelers Stars Ready for City v Country Showcase

Fourteen rising stars from the Illawarra Steelers pathway system will proudly represent their regions this weekend after being selected in the annual City v Country representative fixtures.

The prestigious showcase will again highlight some of the best young rugby league talent in New South Wales, with this year’s matches split across two venues.

4 Pines Park (Brookvale Oval) will host the Under 16 and Under 18 boys clashes on Saturday afternoon, while WIN Stadium takes centre stage on Sunday for the Under 17 girls and Under 19 women’s fixtures.

The Steelers will have strong representation across all four matches, underlining the continued strength of the club’s junior pathways program.

In the Under 18 Boys fixture, Finn Davy, Jack Goulder, Sonny Jamieson and Maximus Van Loo have all been selected for Country, while Cooper Morrison will line up for City.

The Under 19 Women will also feature plenty of local talent, with Halle Barrett, Ella Churchill, Tahlia O’Brien, Tori Shipton and Skye Spencer named in the Country side. Siulolo Richter has earned selection for City.

In the Under 16 Boys fixture, Xaviar Laidlaw will represent Country, while Jake Swan and Destin Tausala have both been selected for City.

The annual City v Country fixtures continue to provide an important representative stepping stone for the state’s emerging players, with many former participants progressing into NSWRL senior competitions, NRL development systems and national representative pathways.

For the Steelers, the selections are further recognition of a development program that continues to produce elite-level talent across both the male and female game.
