History and Pathways

Women’s Rugby League has a long history in Illawarra. Our first open age competition commenced in 2011, with an u18 competition (catering for girls turning 17-18 in the year of registration) commencing in 2016. Prior to this, several Jillaroos came out of the Illawarra when a brief competition was conducted in the 1980’s before the Bulli Eagles competed in the NSWRL Sydney based competition.

Our female pathways continue to expand with South32 Illawarra Rugby League junior girls tackle competitions held for U12, U14, U16 and U18 (in that year of registration). We also run Leaguetag competitions for females from U8’s through to Open Age competitions which are played on Friday nights.

Enquiries regarding clubs seeking to nominate new teams or prospective players wanting to get involved can be directed to info@steelers.com.au
