History and Pathways

Women’s Rugby League has a long history in Illawarra. Our current open age competition commenced in 2011, with an u18 competition (catering for girls turning 17-18 in the year of registration) commencing in 2016. Prior to this, several Jillaroos came out of the Illawarra when a brief competition was conducted in the 1980’s before the Bulli Eagles competed in the NSWRL Sydney based competition.

In 2020, our female pathways will expand with junior girls tackle competitions being implemented (for girls u14 and U16 in that year of registration), allowing females to play the tackle form of the game in Illawarra from u6 to open age.

We also currently run leaguetag competitions for females in u10, u12, u14 and u16, as well as Open Age competition which is played on Friday nights.
