We’re just past the halfway mark of the NSWRL junior rep season, and our SG Ball, Tarsha Gale, and Lisa Fiaola Cup teams are all firmly in contention for a Finals berth in their respective competitions. Outplayed in their last two games, the Harold Matthews boys need a win this week to get their season back on track.
The Tarsha Gale Steelers remain undefeated through five rounds, sitting equal first on the ladder with the Bulldogs. The Under 17s moved into 5th position on the Lisa Fiaola Cup ladder after their 26-10 win over the Roosters last week. Both teams have a bye in Round 6 before taking on the St George Dragons in Round 7.
The boys are in New Zealand this week, with the 12th-placed Harold Matthews side up against the Warriors (10th). Meanwhile, SG Ball Steelers will be looking to return to the winners list against the sixth-placed Warriors outfit, who are undefeated at home this season.
Team News
In team news, Harold Matthews Cup Coach Jamie Szczerbanik has recalled Axel Antony at hooker and Phoenix Johns in the centres, both returning from injury. Creighton Meafou shifts to the bench along with Caden Hooper. Kapene Karaitiana gets his first run-on start in the front row, pushing Leeroy Weatherall into the back row.
Lykhan Togia-King is a big out for the Steelers SG Ball team, replaced by the versatile Clay Baldock, who moves from the wing to five-eighth, with Toby Rumble taking Baldock’s wing. There was just the one change in the engine room, with Isaac Laughton coming off the bench and trading places with Jackson Smith. Tyrone Amone also returns to the 17 on the bench at Thomas Knox’s expense.
